Business relationships - Nathan Winch and Liz Baitson and Ellie McKay
Confession. I am not me.

The last month or so has been a real struggle. Particularly the last 3 weeks. I’ve been taken through the wringer on a deal we’re currently doing and been on and off more lenders than a merry-go-round (a story I will tell another time). Work gets very hard sometimes, when I stop to realise that, directly and indirectly, hundreds of real life people rely on me for their livelihood, mortgage being paid, children being fed. That, plus the added pressure of working on 2 to 3 big deals, involving even more people, even the best of us feel the stress and anxiety – or at least those of us that are human anyway. But then I realise, I have great business relationships that have pulled me through.

It’s all well and good focusing your passion and dedication to your own cause, but that will only get you so far. You need to have strong business relationships with key people, not wasters or mood hoovers. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, in my business Winch & Co, the majority of the hard work is done by the wider team. I’m very lucky to be blessed with team-building abilities – because without those guys I wouldn’t be as far along as I am in my professional career.

But we also can’t forget the external team. Those you don’t employ, but who work with you as suppliers, customers, advisers. Those people I almost class as the ‘thrusters’ of the vehicle. They don’t drive, but they certainly propel you in the direction you’re already headed, much faster than your own pedalling.

The hard fact is, bottom line, get yourself strong business relationships, both internal and external. I’ve had a very tough March, but these guys have got me through. Nobody got anywhere being nasty, confrontational and defensive.

I am a happy, fulfilled, successful owner of a £10million+ business – not because of me, but because of ALL of these PEOPLE.

Serious love to you all, honestly 💛
